Circa 1880, substantial Meiji period cast bronze cylindrical stick stand from Japan. The top has an elaborate neck with unusual engraving on it. The body has wonderful castings which have been applied depicting mythical birds, foliate carving, rocks and water. The base has been made separately and applied, and depicts similar scenes with birds and water. The stick stand retains its original patination, is beautifully made and very sturdy.
