Japanese Meiji Era Three Metals Page Turner - Signed, c1890.
The knife is made from brass and the blade is delicately engraved on both sides with animal and floral motifs (including a bird of prey, a monkey reaching for the moon's reflection (16th C Buddhist Zen story), a small bird, pine branches).
The handle has copper and silver intricate decoration on both sides (it looks like some mythical creature carrying a basket? and on the other side clams in a basket, a crawling crab, and a seaside landscape with boats).
Signed by the artist on the left hand side at the bottom of the handle.
Can be used as a letter opener.
