This is an antique Japanese lacquer table cabinet which dates from the Meiji period, circa 1890. The cabinet has a beautiful black lacquer and is exquisitely hand painted with birds, blossoms and other symbols of good fortune. It has very attractive engraved copper mounts and a fitted interior which is just as beautifully hand decorated. This meiji cabinet has good provenance it was owned by lady Theodora Guest, daughter to the Marquis of Westminster.
This is in fabulous order throughout, which is rare for this type of cabinet as the lacquer is so easily damaged. It measures 35 cms high, 40 cms wide and is 23 cms deep.
