A very fine Japanese marquetry inlaid miniature chest which dates from the late 19th century. A very compact and detailed item which incorporates an array of contrasting inlaid specimen woods, which combine to create complex, detailed patterns which cover the top, sides and drawer fronts. The precise patterns and wonderful mellow patinated surface serves to emphasise the craftsmanship throughout. A delicate, decorative yet functional piece of antique furniture which can serve a variety of applications.
