John Culliford Bristol Queen Anne Longcase Clock
A fine Queen Anne period Bristol longcase clock. An oak case with flat moulded hood pediment with blind fretwork. Front and rear brass capped hood columns and side glass apertures. A slim, well proportioned case with moulded trunk door edging. A high quality brass and silvered dial with original blued steel hands. A finely engraved dial centre with inner border chased engraving and decoration around the date aperture. A seconds dial and ringed winding holes. An 8-day duration, 5 pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Brass cased weights.
John Culliford of Bristol worked from 1692-1716. He is noted and well documented in A J Moores' 'The Clockmakers of Bristol' book as making Lantern antique clocks and longcase. He is also recorded in Loomes 'The Early Clockmakers of Great Britain' as repairing the church antique clock from 1706.
