Attractive 18th century repeating mahogany bracket clock by John Smithyes of London.
The 8 inch silvered arched dial is engraved with Arabic minute and Roman numeral hour indicators, with date and strike/silent dial, signed 'John Smithyes, London'.
The figured mahogany bell top case of good colour is fitted with a brass carrying handle, silk lined pierced sound frets to the front door and side panels with a glazed rear door, all supported on ogee brass cast feet.
The repeating, five pillar fusee movement runs for eight days with an anchor escapement (converted from a verge) and strikes the hour on a bell. The back plate is finely engraved with scrolling foliage.
