Joseph Littlemore of Frodsham Longcase clock
This early oak Eight day running longcase clock by J.Littlemore of Frodsham in Cheshire is in excellent condition despite its age of almost 300 years. Joseph Littlemore was working in the early 18th century about 1720 . Im assuming his name is Joseph as a Jacob Littlemore was also found listed in reference books during research .
An all Oak case including original backboard including the following early case features. Hood side windows, D molding to the trunk door, caddy top , dark heavy oak and iron hinges and lock . The case is in excellent condition and has a fine red oak patination.
The early Brass dial and movement are original to the clock and not a married case and dial . Attractively engraved to the dial center with traditional style of basket of fruit that was a commonly used theme to early provincial longcase clock dials. Early style Mask head spandrels to the dial corners and silvered chapter ring.
The countwheel eight day movement is in very nice condition and of quite large sizes with attractive finned pillars . Cleaned and serviced recently .
A very rare item coinciding this maker seems to have made very few Longcase clocks . A lantern clock is shown by him in a clock article on the maker in clocks magazine May 2007.
