Joyce Hargreaves Mixed Media Painting Butterflies

We are offering this interesting mixed media work, highlighted in gold, by the East Sussex professional artist Joyce Hargreaves, who has entitled the painting verso on her own label, 'Butterflies'. She has further explained the puzzle by listing the butterflies, from the left, Apollo, Painted Lady, Purple Emperor and Peacock. This could be quite an interesting puzzle to ask people to guess the connection between the four elements of the painting.
Joyce Hargreaves N.D.D. trained at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, where she met her future husband Brian Hargreaves (1935-2011). They both gained the National Diploma of Design, became professional artists and collaborated or various projects during their lives together. Brian Hargreaves would become a world famous authority on painting butterflies and illustrated many books, as well as designing postage stamps for various countries. Joyce has written and illustrated 8 books and has run the Journal for a charitable organisation called R.I.L.K.O for many years and her works are often on the covers of the Journal. Some screenprints of her work have been on the market, but this is an original.
The piece is mounted in gilt mountcard and framed in a 1" speckled green frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size: 9" x 8" - 22.85cm x 20.3cm
Frame size: 14 1/2" x 13 1/2" - 36.85cm x 34.3cm
Medium: Mixed media
Condition: Very good. There are a few tiny scrapes on the frame.
