Large Alabaster Plafonnier Greek Key Pattern

We are offering for sale this large grey veined Alabaster Plafonnier, possibly French, which has a Greek key pattern around the rim, is reeded into the centre of the dome, where there is a carved finial in the shape of a flower. The plafonnier is complete with bronzed metal hooks, new matching chain and three hook ceiling rose - ready to be installed.
Alabaster is a naturally occurring soft stone, which makes it especially suitable for carving. The softest form is gypsum alabaster and occurs in England, Italy and Spain, as well as as some other countries of the world. Calcite alabaster is harder and is sometimes known as Oriental Alabaster or Egyptian Alabaster. Alabaster is translucent and in very thin sheets has been used in lieu of glass in windows, particularly in Italy. It can be found in coloured and veined forms.
Diameter 17 3/4" - 45.05cm
Depth 5" - 12.65cm
Drop from ceiling Approx. 21" - 53.3cm (Can be adjusted by shortening the chain)
Material Gypsum Alabaster
Condition Very good. Some minor wear consistent with age and material.
