This is a large antique carved coffer. An English, oak blanket or linen chest, dating to the William III period, circa 1700. A splendid example of early 18th century craftsmanship, offering superb storage and richly detailed carving.
Select oak stocks present fine grain interest with a deep caramel colour throughout
Three-plank lid braced to the reverse for enhanced rigidity and longevity
Iron clasp secures the lid, complete with sliding cover — a charming period feature
Interior hosts a candle box with lidded top, doubling as a convenient rest when the main lid is raised
Fascia adorned with exceptional relief carvings, displaying a demi-lune motif across the apron line
