This large antique Victorian mahogany bookcase is a great looking piece of antique furniture & of high quality throughout. It's early Victorian from around the 1840-60's period & is in excellent original condition. What's unusual about this bookcase is it's slimness in depth on the top & bottom sections. The top section has a bold pronounced cornice & boldly carved corbels either side. There are four levels of shelves behind the arched glazed doors & all of them are adjustable. The bottom section has three more arched panelled cupboards with adjustable shelves inside. All the doors have original locks & it sits on a plinth base. This magnificent bookcase even has the makers label in brass on the inside of the right hand top door - Taylor & Sons, Dover Street, London, which is always a nice touch & a sure sign of quality. The doors, door panels & sides are all solid mahogany. All the doors close tight & there is no warping. Please note that the inside depth of the top section is only 6.2", so there will be limits for the depth of books placed there. The bottom section is deeper inside at 8". This bookcase does come apart into three sections for easy transportation. Please enlarge all the images.
