Large Art Nouveau Chiné Gilt Vase, G.S, R. Doulton

Here we have a Large Art Nouveau Chiné-Gilt Vase from the early years of the 20th century. The vase has a rich dark blue leaf pattern around the base with gilt highlights. Above this is the chiné section which was made by impressing lace into the clay before the first firing and then hand painting and gilding the resultant pattern. The neck of the vase has a distinctively Nouveau deign of leaves and trailing stems on a green background.
The vase was made at the famous Doulton factory in Lambeth, London and dates to between around 1902 (when the company became Royal Doulton) and 1915. It is signed G S which is almost certainly the mark of Georgie Smith, who was active at Doulton between around 1890 and 1915.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The vase is of considerable size, standing 44cm / 17.3ins high and being 12.1cm / 4.8ins in diameter. It weighs 2.13kg / 75oz.
The underside of the base has the usual collection of stamped and incised marks including the Royal Doulton stamp, dating it to 1902 or later, the Doulton Lambeth stamp and the G S incised mark for Georgie Smith.
Shipping in the UK is £20.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which covers the weight and value of the vase.
