Large Carved Oriental Camphor Wood Chest
This is a Beautiful Dome Top Carved Chest, made from Camphor Wood, for those of you who do not know camphor wood it looks a lot like Mahogany it is a hard wood which lends itself very well to carving.
However the main reason for using camphor wood is its fragrance it smells a bit like Eucalyptus and this most attractive of smells repels moths hence its common use in the best quality Blanket Boxes
The carving of this piece is quite spectacular depicting ships and pagodas, the chest is carved on every side, the handles too are carved, it stands on carved cabriole feet and has a large brass clasp on the front which could be locked using a pad lock, the interior is clean and there is a removable tray in the top
The chest is 43” long, 23” high and 20” deep
