Large Tall Antique Mahogany Bureau Bookcase

A lovely antique bureau bookcase. We date this bookcase to the early 20th century.
The bookcase is supplied in two sections: the glazed bookcase top and the base bureau.
The bookcase sits on four cabriole legs with pad feet and has a lovely arched shaped top with a stepped cornice.
The top bookcase has two shapely glazed doors with wood glazing strips. The right hand side door is fitted with a working lock (key supplied) and the left hand side door has top and bottom catches.
The interior is supplied with three height adjustable wood shelves.
The base bureau has a drop flap over a bank of three graduated drawers.
The drop flap lowers to reveal numerous pigeon holes and small drawers with a green writing surface.
The lower drawers are fitted with ornate drop handles mounted on circular backplates. The drawers and bureau drop flap are fitted with locks (key is supplied).
The bookcase cabinet has an overall height of 83.5"(212cm), a cornice width of 37.7" (96cm) and a depth of 19" (48cm) at legs.
The bookcase shelves have a depth of 7.5” (19cm).
This lovely mahogany bookcase bureau cabinet remains in very good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There is some very minor wear to the finish and some of the edges. The writing surface and the front of some of the pigeon holes have some minor wear. The bureau has some slight mellowing primarily to the drop flap. The bottom drawer has a small repair to the bottom corner.
This remains a very stylish and elegant bureau bookcase cabinet which could house a reasonable sized collection of books and display a small sized collection of objects d'art etc. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
