Such a gorgeous vintage glitter compact mirror! Melissa produced powder compacts for a short period of time in the 1950s. From the 1930s to the 1950s Lucite was a very fashionable plastic used in luxury products as it could be carved into exquisitely beautiful forms as you can see from photograph one. Lucite was often set atop a foil / glitter background, as is the case here to
emphasize the beauty of collectible vanities & luxurious handbags. This adorable Lucite bouquet was "reversed carved" all set on a background of immaculate textured foil with a glitter effect. This delightful decoration is well protected within a clear dome & the whole compact is in excellent condition with an engine turned base, inner lid & a gorgeous border of gilt scroll work surrounding the Lucite bouquet. The mirror is excellent. It gives a very good clear and accurate reflection. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The original puff and sifter are in place. The inner lid is beautiful & held in place by the well known Melissa "tear-drop" catch.
This adorable Lucite vintage compact measures almost 7 cm & weighs 77.6 grams.
