Laurence L.Roche b.1944 Acrylic Sunset Silhouettes

We are offering for sale this dramatic acrylic painting by the Welsh artist Laurence Roche, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner and dated it 1980. The painting depicts a sunset landscape over an estuary, with a barn and the trees and telegraph poles, silhouetted against the sunset sky. The artist exhibits an interesting technique, with the foreground painted in great detail with very fine brush strokes, while the sky in executed in wide flat strokes.
Laurence Roche was born in 1944 in Goodwicke, in Pembrokeshire, Wales. He studied at Swansea College of art 1962-1965, before attending Edinburgh College of Art for another three years. He trained to become an Art Teacher in Edinburgh and taught at schools in Reading and Colchester before becoming a full-time artist in 1979.
He was the President of the Guild of Railway Artists from 1998-2002. His subjects include railways, industrial scenes, landscapes and seascapes. In the early 1990s he was artist-in-residence at Allied Steel and Wire. Some of his work is available in print form.
