Liberty Leonard Wyburd Reading Stand Bookcase

This is a great and stylish oak reading stand or bookcase, designed by Leonard Wyburd and sold at Liberty around 1890-1910. The top is sloped to facilitate reading and below are two practical and useful shelves, with the whole thing supported on castors.
Leonard Wyburd set up the Liberty Furnishing and Decoration Studio as early as 1883, at the height of the Aesthetic Movement. His real specialty in the early days of the Furniture & Decoration Studio was the `Moorish' style which he employed not only for smoking rooms, but also for drawing rooms, and Liberty's own 'Arab' tea rooms.
It was not until the late 1890s that he began to design the avant-garde antique furniture which was to help revolutionize the whole concept of furniture design, not only in England but also in Vienna, Berlin and Paris. PriceSOLD DimensionsWidth 64cm (25 1/5 inches) Depth 34cm (13 2/5 inches) Height Front 79 cm (31 1/10 inches) Height Rear 82cm (32 1/4 inches) Category Antique Furniture Date Arts & Crafts Arts and Crafts Antiques Material Oak Origin English Maker Liberty Designer Leonard Wyburd Condition Good.
