Handsome early 19th.c. longcase clock by George Baird of Carlisle c.1820. Fine mahogany case, the hood with a crisp swan neck pediment with brass roundels over a crossbanded and inlaid arched door, flanked with turned and fluted columns with original gilded brass Corinthian capitals. Flame mahogany veneered case with Greek key pattern inlays, fluted quarter columns and ogee mouldings at the waist. Superb and original painted face named for Geo. Baird of Carlisle and featuring a lovely hand painted decoration of birds at the centre and pink roses at the corners. With a separate second dial, date display and rolling moon painted with a tall ship flying the red ensign of the Royal Navy. Eight day works striking the hours on a bell. Original weights and pendulum. Excellent condition, the case has been cleaned and polished in our workshops. Works have been cleaned and overhauled and are sold with a 12 month guarantee.
