This is a wonderfully attractive portrait oil on canvas attributed to the Italian artist Lucia Sarto, who is a romantic impressionist. The painting is unsigned on the canvas, hence the attribution, but bears a name plaque on the original frame and the painting is very redolent of her more refined work. The painting depicts an ethereal figure of a female violinist, floating in the clouds, surrounded by flowers.

Lucia Sarto was born in the Udine province of Italy in 1950. She won her first prize for painting at the age of eleven. She studied art in Venice and Turin, where the works of Guiseppe de Nittis (1846-1884) and Filippo Palizzi, as well as those of John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) greatly influenced her. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions all over Italy, Europe and North America since 1980, and her paintings are in private collections in Monaco, New York, Tokyo, Vienna, Frankfurt, London, Venice, Beijing etc.

The painting is framed in its original 4" gilt bronze coloured ornate swept frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Medium: Oils on canvas

Condition: Very good. The canvas is clean and taut and there are no repairs, craquelure or stretcher marks. There was an old repair to the stretcher as shown, which is now solid. The frame is in very good condition with some very minor cracking.
