This exceptional mahogany surprise drinks table is a fine example of furniture associated with Maple & Co., one of Britain’s most prestigious furniture makers of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The table is crafted from beautifully figured rich mahogany, boasting a warm and inviting patina that has aged gracefully over time. The delicate marquetry inlaid details on the top and sides feature harebell swags and bow motifs, a testament to the artistry of the period.
The table’s ingenious design is revealed upon opening the hinged top, where a smooth mechanism raises a mahogany-framed glass tray. This tray is fitted with quality brass L-shaped corner brackets and brass carry handles, combining practicality with elegant detailing. The removable tray rests on a polished mahogany surface with string inlaid decoration, providing a refined setting for serving drinks.
