A vintage leather storage box in the form of a top hat, by renowned maker Maitland-Smith. Circa. 1980s.

Maitland Smith was founded in 1979 by Paul Maitland-Smith, originally an antiques dealer in London in the 1950s, with headquarters based in North Carolina, U.S. He began manufacturing reproduction Chippendale chairs and artisan pieces using hand-tooled methods. Maitland-Smith was renowned for its quality and whimsical pieces.

This Maitland-Smith box is of superb form and quality throughout with fine gilt tooling and a perfectly fitting lid.
