Cox Devonport and Plymouth Marine sextant in fitted mahogany box. No. 2724
Early to Mid 19th C An excellent Antique Marine Sextant, by Cox of Devonport and Plymouth, in a fitted Mahogany case.. The Mahogany case is in good condition, with a small shrinkage crack to the lid. A tortoiseshell insert decorates the lid, while the small white circular 'COX' button is set into the box fittings.
The sextant itself has a 3-circle frame, which evolved around this time to be lightweight, have low wind resistance, and minimum dimensional change through the ambient temperature range.
The sextant comes complete with a telescope and 2 sets of filters, all in good condition. Cox Devonport and Plymouth is engraved onto the vernier scale.
FAULTS
The magnifier arm has been broken, and is missing (see photos), hence the low price for this superb instrument
