Mary McCrossan (1863-1934) Polperro

Signed M.McCrossan and dated 1929.
Oil on Canvas within a period gilt oak frame.
Various inscriptions on label and stretcher on reverse.
Mary McCrossan was born in Liverpool and studied at the Liverpool School of Art, the Academie Delecluse in Paris and with Julius Olsson. She won medals and a scholarship in Liverpool along with silver medals and a scholarship in Paris. A Landscape, figure and flower painter, Mary McCrossan hung 22 times at the Royal Academy in London. Her work has been reproduced in the Studio and Colour magazines. In 1935 the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool held a Memorial Exhibition.
