A very unusual and rare masonic longcase clock by John Briggs of Gargrave early 19th century in date with an oak short door case with mahogany cross banding and other fine detailing the case , is in splendid condition for its age. All original apart from a replacement lock. Painted face with floral corners and arch top with lots of masonic symbols and two sets of 3 initials. I have no idea what they stand for. Behind the face is a 30 hour movement never seen this before on a masonic longcase clock, so my guess is it was made for a masonic member and not a lodge. The movement is in a good clean condition and runs without fault and keeps good time and chimes correctly.
I think this is the only masonic antique clock made by John Briggs, he made a good number of long cases but was not a prolific maker
