Mechanical Box - Articulated Dog - Fox Terrier

Dating to the early twentieth century, around 1910, this box I suspect originates from the Black Forest region or Italian Dolomites the articulated fox Terrier is similar to the Anri figures, but seems to be better quality.
The box is made from a beautifully figured piece of Walnut and trimmed with pewter edging.
The charming figural dog in the form of a Fox Terrier sports two little glass eyes. The tail of the dog is used to open the box, the dog is articulated and as the lid opens, the dog "crawls" up the lid and appears to be peering over the edge once open.
I suspect this was originally a cigarette box, but could now be used for all manor of things from change, Jewels or gentleman's cufflinks.
A truly charming and novel box in excellent condition.
The box measures 4 1/4" x 3 3/4" x 4" tall to top of dog the hand carved figure spanning 6 1/4" in length.
