Mid-Century Grapefruit Spoons & Knife Set, c.1950s Mid-Century Silver Plate Grapefruit Spoons %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a good quality set of Mid-Century Silver Plated Grapefruit Spoons and Knife in their original box. The spoons are double struck with a thread along the stems and a drop motif at the top end. The Grapefruit Knife has an ivorine handle and a stainless steel blade with the distinctive curved end for cutting inside a grapefruit. The box is in an orange lizard skin design with a peach satin interior.

The set is made by Priestley & Moore in Sheffield and dates to around the 1950s. Priestley & Moore were founded in the 1930s and specialised in making silver plate and stainless steel cutlery and flatware. They had premises in Sheffield and London and remained in business until the mid-1980s.

Condition of this set is excellent, it looks like it has seen little if any use. The box is also in very good condition with no scuffing and the hinges and clasps in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The grapefruit spoons are each 13.9cm / 5.5ins long and the knife is 19.9cm / 7.8ins long. The set, unboxed, weighs in at 171.5g / 6oz.

The spoons are marked on the underside of the stems with EPNS for electroplated nickel silver (ie silver plate), A1, the top grade of silver plate and the P&M makers' mark for Priestley & Moore. There is also a registered design number of 708938, which dates the design to 1925, although the spoons were made around the 1950s. The knife is stamped Valiant, which is the brand name of Priestley & Moore.
