Mid-Century Silver Plate Mug, Mappin & Webb

This is a fine quality Mid-Century Silver Plate Mug dating to just after the Second World War. The mug has a circular stepped base, tapered sides and a c-shaped handle. There are no initials or inscription of any kind making this ideal as a gift for a christening or other special occasion.
The mug was made in Sheffield by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb as part of their Mappin Plate range of electroplate and dates to between 1948 and 1952. One of the best known names in English silverware, the firm was originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr. In 1859 the company split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The Mappin & Webb brand name remains a byword for quality and style to this day.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mug is 10.7cm / 4.2ins from rim to handle, 8.2cm / 3.2ins in diameter and stands 9.5cm / 3.7ins high. It weighs in at 312.7g / 11oz.
The underside of the base is stamped Mappin & Webb Ltd and Mappin Plate and has the date letter C, which dates the mug to around 1948 to 1952.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
