Miniature Portrait Indian 19th Century Mumta %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a delightful early 19th century gouache portrait in strong vibrant colours of the Mumtaz Mahal Begum wife of Shah Jehan in beautiful dress holding a flower.
The Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan commissioned the construction of the Taj Mahal in Agra in 1682, arguably the most beautiful building in the world, to house the tomb of Mumtaz his beloved wife. This charming miniature portrait is a super example and captures her character and beauty perfectly.
The portrait is in an oval ebonised frame with a tooled and cast gilt metal mount. The frame measures 12 cms by 9.5 cms.
