Monte Carlo Rally competitor's plate 1962. Ford.

Since a Ford Zephyr, driven by Maurice Gatsonides, had won the 1953 Monte Carlo Rally outright these six-cylinder Fords had been a popular choice for some of the more serious competitors, the Mk 2 versions perhaps even more so. Although never to win again the 1960 rally saw nine finish with the most successful of them in 6th place. The plate we are offering was worn by the Mk 2 Zephyr driven by Bill Frost and Ellis Cuff Miller - finishing in 72nd place out of the 149 cars that successfully completed the event.
The pair had competed previously in one of Ellis' Zephyrs. He was a Ford dealer and their entry sported the registration number CUF 577. Bill Frost had a garage in Hove and although a keen rallyist was more well known for his racing exploits particularly in international events such as Le Mans and Sebring at the wheel of a Lotus Eleven. This plate was acquired some twenty years ago, along with much of his other racing memorabilia directly from his widow.
Price includes insured postage to any UK address, plus a high resolution image of the photo in our archive will be emailed to the purchaser. All items are covered by the Distance Selling Regulations which give buyers the right to cancel the purchase within seven days after receipt of the item for a full refund less RETURN transport costs
