Month Duration London Marquetry Longcase Clock
Fine month duration walnut marquetry longcase clock by William Grimes, London, c.1700.
Walnut "all over" arabesque marquetry case, the hood with pierced and fretted frieze under the cornice top moulding, plain Doric hood columns with matching rear quarter columns, side windows. The trunk with "bullseye" lenticle to trunk door, plus walnut veneered panelled sides and double plinth base.
The fine 12" square brass dial with wheat ear engraved border is mounted with cherub and foliate spandrels, silvered chapter ring and subsidiary seconds ring.
