Mother of Pearl Drinks Cabinet / Tantalus - 1885

The most magnificent cabinet in Mother of Pearl I have had, a large cabinet smothered all over in Mother of Pearl or Nacre shell tiles with a glossy patina with it's iridescent qualities.
The front of the cabinet has two double raised panels, one to each door, the left one with a shell escutcheon which houses the working key.
The lid lifts to reveal a fitted interior in navy blue velvet and the three most exquisite hand-cut circular decanters, all in sensational condition. A set of eight cut glasses are fitted to the brackets within.
There is a silver engraved plaque affixed to the interior "Presented by Barrow Shipbuilding Co. To Mrs Bailey On Launching the Ship Drumcraig, Jany 19th 1885".
This ship was launched on this date at the shipyard of Barrow Shipbuilding Co., Barrow-in-Furness, for Gillison & Chadwick, Liverpool. and the Captain was T.S Bailey, so presumably the ship was launched by the Captain's wife.
A magnificent and impressive box measuring 13 1/4" wide x 11" deep x 13 1/2" tall.
