Mrs.A.V.Hobson Watercolour Portrait 1864

This auction is for a beautiful watercolour portrait of two ladies, by the Victorian artist Mrs. A.V. Hobson, who has signed the painting to the lower left and dated it 1864. The portrait is of two pretty young ladies, one with black hair, wearing jewels in her hair and one blonde, wearing a grey dress. The one on the right, is wearing a black tiara-like jewelled headband and pearl teardrop earrings. The portrait has been painted in great detail.
Please note we are selling the painting in the mount only, but will ship in the original frame. However, due to the fragile nature of the frame and the fact that it has been repaired in the past, we cannot be responsible for any damage that may occur in transit. We will, however, pack it with great care in a custom made box.
Mrs. A. V. Hobson, was the wife of Henry E. Hobson, a genre and rustic painter, who flourished from 1857 to 1870. Mrs. Hobson, was the daughter of James Hardy Sr. (1801-1879) and the sister of James Hardy Jr. (1832-1889) and Heywood Hardy (1842-1933), all celebrated artists. It is mentioned that James Hardy Senior's daughter, a still life painter, married Henry Hobson Jr. in The Dictionary of British Watercolour Artists by Mallalieu. It must be said that the faces in these portraits, bear a considerable resemblance to the work of her husband Henry, who also painted portraits in watercolour.
There is one auction listing for her work in recent years, a watercolour entitled 'Contemplation' on findartinfo.com.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two tone to complement and is framed in its original ornate oval gilt frame. It is ready to hang.
