Oak And Mahogany Longcase Clock John Wood Stroud
The antique clock has an 8-day movement striking hourly on a bell. The 12” Wilson, square dial has Roman numerals, a date ring and a seconds ring, painted with floral corners. The trunk has a crossbanded door with an inlaid shell to the centre, and a mahogany panel above and below bordered with an inlaid banding. The base is also crossbanded on the outside with another inboard crossbanding. The hood has a mahogany swan-neck pediment with a centre finial. To either side of the hood there are fluted columns with brass capitals and also fluted quarter columns down the trunk. The clock has its original back but has been strengthened on the inside with a man-made board but does detract from the external appearance. Circa. 1820
