Oil Painting British Iron Clipper Ben Venue


We are delighted to offer for sale a quality oil painting on canvas of the 'British Iron Clipper 'Ben Venue' 999 Tons, Watson Line Built 1867.
The vessel is depicted in full sail cutting through a rough and choppy sea at full speed.
The painting is an accurate representation of the subject and the sea is realistically painted by the artist R.Bramley.
HISTORY
The Ben Venue was a iron hulled clipper ship, built by Barclay shipbuilders, later Barclay Curle, at Stobcross in Glasgow. There is a great deal of information on the Ben Venue and her wrecking in May 1882 in Caroline Bay, near the port of Timaru in New Zealand, including photographs of the ship beached and another ship, the City of Perth, which was also broke its hawsers in the same storm, but was undamaged.
FRAME
The painting is framed in an 3" ornate, pierced, swept gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
SIGNATURE
Signed Lower left bottom corner R.Bramley with written inscription verso on the edge of the canvas
( 'British Iron Clipper 'Ben Venue' 999 Tons, Watson Line Built 1867.)
There is also a card attached to the back of the stretcher giving more information about the ship, which we have photographed.

Frame size: 35.5 Inches x 25.75 Inches (90.15cm x 65 cm)
