This is a fun novelty ceramic Teapot For One designed as The Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe. It is in a bright green glaze with silver highlights. The teapot was part of a series featuring nursery rhyme characters such as Humpty Dumpty and Little Bo Peep. These are usually seen as full size teapots and this is the first time we've seen The Old Woman in a single person size.

The teapot was made by Lingard, Webster & Co in Tunstall, Staffordshire and dates to around the 1930s. The firm was founded by Daniel Lingard and James Webster in 1899 and Clarice Cliff served her apprenticeship with them between 1912 and 1915. They are most famous for their teapots, both functional and novelty. The nursery rhymes teapots were made between around 1930 and 1955 but the ones with silver highlights date from before wartime restrictions were imposed in 1941.

Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks and just a tiny amount of crackling to the glaze on the tongue of the lid that sits inside the teapot. The interior is very clean and it doesn't appear that this teapot has ever seen use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The teapot is 16cm / 6.3ins from spout to handle, 7.5cm / 2.9ins across and 10.5cm / 4.1ins high. It weighs 294.2g / 10.4oz.

The underside of the teapot has the impressed mark ENGLAND and the printed mark Lingard above Made In England.
