Opulent kingwood and ormolu French side table.
This is a very opulent small side cabinet. It is French and very luxurious with exotic kingwood quartered on the top to give a chevron design and this is inlaid with a boxwood oval and crossbanded in mahogany. The chevron design continues around the frieze with a drawer on one side and bold ormolu mounts front and back.
Gilt ormolu looks wonderfully opulent against polished kingwood. The elegantly shaped cabriole legs are joined by a lower tier and all the feet terminate in ormolu mounts.
This has been a very expensive piece in its day. I would imagine it dates to the early twentieth century 1920 - 1930s.
The condition is good for age. No damage or worm. Joints solid. Good rich colour. All ormolu mounts in place.
This is a quality side table for a principal room or hallway / turn of a stairway, furnished in antiques.
The cabinet is 21.5 inches wide and 27 inches high and 16 inches deep.
