Artist Biography
Fred Morgan is an English artist famous for his idyllic genre scenes, mainly of childhood. Trained as an artist by his father, Fred earned a living as a portrait artist, but soon proved that he could make a living selling his genre paintings. He exhibited a number of times at the Royal Academy and all of his work was retailed through Thomas Agnew and Sons. His work was very popular at the time and many of his paintings were used as illustrations for Pears soap adverts and are still being reproduced today. His paintings are held in many collections including the Walker Gallery and of course the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
Painting Details
This is a beautiful and highly accomplished watercolour painting by one of Victorian England’s best known artists. Depicting a water nymph smelling a flower, I believe this painting to be a personal gift from Morgan as it is not his usual subject matter and he has signed it with a flourish to the reverse.
The painting has been professionally cleaned ( Conservers report provided). The painting is offered in its original very ornate frame. Some additional provenance is provided.
