A beautifully framed original Japanese woodblock print of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Obo Kichizo by Utagawa Kunisada, c.1857. It depicts the kabuki actor Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the ronin (masterless samurai) Obo Kichisa in the play "Ami Moyo Toro no Kiku Kiri" at the Ichimura Theatre. He emerges from a bush in an aggressive mood, his kimono tucked up at the back for easier movement and with his two swords at his side.

A further example of this print is held by the Waseda University Theatre Museum in Tokyo.

Dimensions: Frame - Height 62 cm x width 49 cm x depth 3.5 cm

Image (mount window) - 33.5 cm x 23.5 cm

Condition: The print has not been inspected outside its frame but appears to be in very good antique condition. It is beautifully presented within an ivory mount and black stained wooden frame which is in perfect condition. This print was acquired from the same source as several other original woodblock prints all of which are presented in the same way.
