A wonderful original framed watercolour example of Scottish Genre painting by renowned and widely exhibited Scottish artist, John Rennie McKenzie Houston, R.S.W. "Girl with a Bird in a Cage" c.1900. A charming interior genre scene with a young girl captivated by a bird in a cage by a sunlit window. This watercolour has an antique gold modern wooden frame.

John Rennie McKenzie Houston (1856 - 1932) was an acclaimed Scottish Artist who is best known for painting Scottish Genre figurative subjects and interiors. He studied at The Glasgow School of Art and lived in Glasgow and became a member of the prestigious Royal Scottish Watercolour Society (R.S.W.) in 1889 and exhibited there 36 times. He was also a member of the Royal Scottish Academy (R.S.A.) exhibiting there 3 times. John Rennie McKenzie Houston also exhibited his work at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts 45 times. He died in Edinburgh in 1932.

This framed watercolour is in good condition. There is a small scratch on the frame. There are dust marks on the cardboard mount. Please see photographs.
