Painted Pine Box Settle c.1820
Early 19th.c. painted pine box settle of hall seat c.1820. Slightly sloping backrest featuring four flat panels within moulded surrounds. Shaped flat-top arms with rounded ends raised on chamfered supports. Over a board seat (height 19") with a loose panel at the centre which lifts to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Panelled front and sides, original moulding and shaped bracket feet at the front, original back and floor boards. Unusually the settle retains the old scumbled paintwork attractively worn and rubbed through around the arms and feet. With a repair to the rear right hand leg, otherwise very good original condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
