Pair cased, verge pocket watch, London, c1780

George Peacock, London, c1780,
Gilt & shell pair cases, 48.5 mm
Verge movement
MOVEMENT : Gilded verge movement, signed and numbered (4269). Pierced and engraved balance cock and plate. Nice clean condition and running well.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is virtually perfect with just a few surface scratches and some tiny chips around the centre hole.
INNER CASE : Gilt on brass. Most of the gilding has worn off the outside though still complete on the inside. The hinge has one sleeve missing, though the case closes ok. A few dents to the rim. The high dome crystal is in good condition.
OUTER CASE : Brass gilt, with shell covering. Very good colour. The case is in original condition with no restoration. The shell on the back is complete with none missing but with three cracks. There are two small sections missing on the bezel though no cracks. Four pins missing from the back and 17 from the bezel. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes nicely.
Loomes lists a George Peacock in London (Threadneedle Street) between 1770 and 1785.
