Pair Fine Japanese Satsuma Vases Meiji Era

A Stunning Pair of Japanese Satsuma Vases.
Each vase, of squat ovoid form, crafted to a very high standard and decorated in exquisite detail.
Painted in the round with a continuous scene depicting the journey of a high-ranking female on horseback through a mountainous landscape. She is accompanied by numerous servants who carry supplies and possessions. The procession passes through villages and over bridges which span plunging gorges.
Painted in both wash and tightly worked detail, with some polychrome enamel infill and exquisite gilded highlights.
Beautiful quality throughout.
Both vases are signed to the underside 'Nikko' and are presented on their original wooden stands.
Meiji era, c. late 19th - early 20th Century.
Dimensions -
Each approx 9.5 cms high (without the wooden stands). One vase is marginally larger than the other (barely noticeable with the naked eye).
Condition -
Both are in superb, undamaged condition. Only very minor rubbing to gilding in places. Some crazing commensurate with age and typical of the glaze type.
