Here is an example of a superb pair of antique French Chateau style stamped walnut upholstered stand / dining / hall Chairs, circa 1850 - 1860.

Here is an example of a superb pair of antique French chateau style stamped walnut upholstered stand / dining / hall Chairs, circa 1850 - 1860. Both chairs feature stuff over seat with pink material. The stuff over pink upholstery is fixed in place with white braiding. The chairs are stamped “Robert Rough Cabinet Maker, London”. The chairs feature a shaped walnut frame back inset with upholstery. The fronts of the shaped seats feature floral carvings. The cabriole legs terminate in the original brass castors. The backs of the legs are shaped which is a sign of good quality. The chairs are firm and would look good anywhere especially as they are comfortable and consume little space.
Provenance
Each chair is labelled , (Late Thos. Paul & Co.,) Cabinet maker and Upholsterer, 5 Ludgate Hill, London. A pair of his antique tables recently sold at Christie’s auction house, London, for £11,875. Labelled by the cabinet-maker Robert Rough, who succeeded Thomas Paul & Company around 1840, and was established in Ludgate Hill in the 1850s as 'Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer, Appraiser, Auctioneer and Estate Agent'. As well as the furnishing of boats and offices, Rough is particularly celebrated as the furnisher of Kitley, Devon from 1855.

Condition Report
These chairs are in excellent condition commensurate with their age. Some nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. No breaks to the backs or legs. The upholstery is in very good condition although there are some very small marks on the seats (see photos) which are hardly noticeable. Free of wood worm, solid in joint and ready to use.
