Pair of 19th Century English Regency Armchairs

A Pair of Interesting Regency Armchairs by John Gee of Wardour Street. Stamped GEE.
These beautiful armchairs were made by John Gee of 49 Wardour Street, London, Turner and Chair Maker to King George III from 1804. The Gee firm was descended from that of Ayliffe and Crompton which had supplied chairs to the royal family for many years previously. Our chairs, as is typical of Gee pieces, are stamped with Gee's name on one chair.
They retain their original black and gilt painted finish, with caned panels in the backs and seats and squab cushions. The crest rails have baluster-turned sections either side of a decorative, raised and fluted central piece. The long scrolling arm rests are typical of Gee's production as are the sabre legs with central gilt panels. The chairs stand extremely well and are very elegant examples of regency furniture, demonstrating all of the qualities which made Gee's chairs so desirable to his high profile clientele at the time.
