Pair of Early 20th C. Wooden Scottie Dog Bookends
This is a charming Pair of Early 20th Century Wooden Scottie Dog Bookends. The bookends are hand carved in Black Forest style with oblong bases on which the Scotties stand peering at each other through a gate or fence.
The bookends are stamped FOREIGN on each end, which was a commonly used mark for export items from Europe before the USA passed its act in 1923 requiring all goods to be stamped Made In..., naming the actual country of origin. These most probably originate in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
Condition is good, with just a few natural flaws in the wood that have become more apparent with age, particularly a knot in the wood on the muzzle of one dog. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bookends as a pair are 26.5cm / 10.4ins long, 13.5cm / 5.3ins wide, 8.3cm / 3.2cm high and weigh 467g / 16.47oz.
