Pair of Early Victorian Oak Hall Chairs pair Victorian oak %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Circa 1860, good pair of early Victorian solid oak hall chairs with enclosed upright backs, crowned with carved acorns and oak leaves. At the side is a rustic carving of branches and beneath this is another cluster of leaves and acorns. There are 2 barley sugar uprights and at the bottom of the splat is a small beaded edge. The splats are quarter sawn showing off the beautiful grain of the oak. The seat tapers from front to back and has canted corners. Beneath this is a moulded edge and a simple apron running round the front and sides. The back legs are outswept and the front legs are very stylish starting with a fluted vase like top with a slow turn barley sugar leg beneath finishing in a turning and tapering toe. The chairs retain the original patination and are in excellent condition.
