This is a superb quality pair of antique Edwardian neoclassical inlaid mahogany salon armchairs, circa 1900, having been newly re-upholstered, in good condition.

Description:
This is a superb quality pair of antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany salon armchairs, circa 1900, having been newly re-upholstered, in good condition. The pair of armchairs is constructed of solid mahogany, with boxwood string inlay and satinwood banding to the chair frames. Featuring a fine open inlaid geometric shaped splat back with quarter circle inlay motifs, finished with carved Corinthian capitals at either end, with a curved top rail, embellished with satinwood banding and boxwood inlay. Fine sweeping arms, which incorporate further satinwood inlay and motifs, secure the back are raised on tapered fluted inlaid supports, which attach to the seat frame.
The armchairs have been newly upholstered in a top quality silk based fabric, with a diamond pattern, in coffee and cream colours, finished with a fine blue spot structure, completed with matching braiding. This upholstery would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The underside of the seats has been re-webbed in the traditional manner, using hessian, to ensure the seats are comfortable but secure at the same time. The armchairs are raised on elegant square tapering string inlaid mahogany front legs, and sabre legs to the rear (this is a sign of quality). Inlaid and banded curved twin front stretchers, with twin turned side stretchers, and a rear turned stretcher, unite the legs.
The design of these chairs is influenced by the neoclassical period (from the late 18th century), which takes inspiration from classical architecture, where the cabinetry is strong and rectilinear, specifically the upright fine open geometric columns, featuring the Corinthian capitals. The renowned cabinetmaker, Thomas Sheraton, in the late 18th century, employed such designs in the antique furniture he made.
The armchairs feature a rich mahogany brown colour. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

The armchairs are in excellent condition having just been professionally re-upholstered. Therefore, the upholstery is new and free from damage, rips, and marks or fading. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There is no missing inlay or banding to the frames. The frames and arms are solid and in excellent condition with no loose joints. The armchairs sit firm on the ground and do not wobble. As the armchairs boasts the original polish, they have a fantastic mellow colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
