Pair of George III Mahogany Dining Room Pedestals pair George III Georgian %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Circa 1790, very unusual tall pair of George III mahogany and inlaid dining room pedestals. The tops are hinged and open to reveal an open section within, which could have been used for holding bottles or tureens. There is a circular inlay on the top, crossbanded with satinwood and ebony, and this occurs again on the front and on the large cupboard below in a larger oval shaped version. Between the top and bottom section there is a crossbanded inlay in the form of faux fluting. The bottom cupboard opens to reveal adjustable shelves. There is an ogee moulding beneath and the whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. These type of pedestals would often come with a serving table in the centre, but could be used for display, statuary or lamps.

Size 122.5cm high x 40cm square.
