George Charlton was born on 18th February 1899 in London, EC2.

From 1919 until his retirement George Charlton worked part time as a tutor at the Slade School in London. This pair of paintings are dated 1938-1946 when Charlton was based in Oxford (following Slade School's evacuation there).
