Here is a fine quality pair of antique Victorian oak bedside chests, circa 1850, in excellent condition.

Here is a fine quality pair of antique Victorian oak bedside chests, circa 1850, in excellent condition. Each bedside chest boasts elegant moulded square cornered oak tops this style is reflected in the design of the frieze below. Beaded astragal glazing is present around the frame of the bedsides below the first set of drawers. The bedsides each have five graduated working drawers, constructed with solid fruitwood drawer linings with hand-dovetailed joints, they feature elegant applied mouldings to the drawer fronts. The drawers also feature their original carved oak knobs, with the original circular brass escutcheons and original working locks (with key). The floral carved knobs are mirrored in the design of the floral carved feet. The whole sits on a moulded frieze supported by the original feet. The backs of the chests incorporate inset oak panels. The top of the bedsides boasts a stunning piece of oak the medulla rays in the timber are superbly pronounced in the drawer fronts too.
Both chests are constructed of top quality solid oak timber. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides they are heavy to lift!
The bedsides feature a rich mid brown oak colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.

These adapted bedside chests are in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no cup marks, ink stains or other types of marks to the tops of the bedsides. The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. The knobs and feet are original, as are the brass escutcheons and the working lever locks. There is a working key with the bedsides. These bedsides are constructed of top quality oak the quality of this oak gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is also reflected in the weight of these bedsides they are well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
